BE A PART OF HVCC SUMMER STAFF

PROJECT CREW

THE GIG

Project Crew: Lead. Earn. Impact. Get paid to help out your community in a way that matters to you this summer! Project Crew isn't just a summer program - it’s a hybrid experience designed for leaders. Running June 2nd through August 6th, this is a real, paying job paired with exclusive opportunities to level up your skills and give back.

The Role: You’ll work 10 paid hours per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) in the department that fits you best:

  • Makers Market: For the creators, builders, and entrepreneurs.

  • Community Crew: For those who want to be on the front lines of local impact.

  • Media Team: For the storytellers, photographers, and digital gurus.

  • Operations Crew: For the organizers and the "make it happen" crowd.

Who Should Apply: Project Crew is designed for youth entering grades 8–10 (typically ages 14–16). Younger or older applicants may be considered based on demonstrated responsibility, leadership, and readiness for a work-based role.

More Than Just a Paycheck: While you’ll be earning a real wage for your 10 hours of work, Project Crew members are the leaders of our program. To help you grow, we’ve built in:

  • Wednesday Field Trips (Optional): Join us for mid-week excursions to explore tand just hang out. Note: These are optional, unpaid "bonus" days for the crew.

  • Service & Learning: Beyond your paid shift, you’ll have the chance to engage in volunteer projects and workshops designed to sharpen your professional toolkit.

  • Leadership Expectations: As the face of Project Crew, you’ll be asked to step up. This may include contributing your voice or skills to special projects outside of your standard 10-hour work block.

The Bottom Line: You’ll face real expectations and real responsibility. In return, you’ll get a summer full of cool experiences, a stronger resume, and a paycheck for your hard work.

If you’re ready to have fun AND level up, Project Crew is the place to be.

MAKERS MARKET

COMMUNITY CREW

Do you love creating, selling, and making things happen? Maker's Market Crew is where business meets creativity. You'll kick things off by designing and selling HVCC merch, then level up to running a drinks and dessert pop-up stand, selling boxed lunches, and — the grand finale — planning the end of summer party for the whole program. Every session is something brand new, and you'll walk away knowing how to build something from the ground up.

If you love getting outside and making your community a better place, this is your crew. You'll spend the summer doing real, hands-on work like beautifying the town with flowers, leading gym and outdoor activities, and adopting and taking care of a space that's all your own. The work is different every session, but the mission is always the same: leave things better than you found them.

MEDIA TEAM

OPERATIONS CREW

Lights, camera, action! The Media Team is where the magic gets captured. You'll be the ones behind the lens, shooting photos, filming commercials, and conducting interviews that tell the story of the whole summer program. You'll also put your skills to work promoting the Maker's Market Crew, and wrap everything up with an epic end-of-summer photo and video show. If you've ever wanted to create content, this is your team.

Operations Crew is the backbone of the whole summer program. If you like variety, staying busy, and knowing that things only run smoothly because of you, this is your crew. Each session, you'll rotate through four key roles that keep everything moving: Activity Support, Kitchen, Facilities, and Hospitality. You'll come out of the summer knowing how to handle just about anything that gets thrown at you.

THE EXPECTATIONS

BE RELIABLE

When you're part of Project Crew, your team counts on you. Being reliable means showing up every week, on time, ready to work your 12 hours. It means being present on Wednesday field trips (yes, those are part of the job!), and following through on whatever you're assigned without having to be reminded. Life happens, and we get that, but if something comes up, you communicate like a professional and let someone know ahead of time. Reliable people are the ones everyone wants on their team, and that starts here.

BE A GREAT TEAMMATE

Project Crew doesn't work if everyone is just doing the bare minimum for themselves. Great teammates look up from their own tasks and ask, "What else can I do?" They jump in when something needs to get done, even if it's not officially their job. They celebrate each other, pick each other up, and never leave a teammate hanging. The best crews aren't made up of the most talented people — they're made up of people who genuinely have each other's backs. Be that person.

BE RESPECTFUL

Respect is non-negotiable on Project Crew. That means treating every adult, every teammate, and every participant with kindness, even on the hard days. It means completing tasks you're given with a good attitude and without complaining or rolling your eyes. It also means respecting the spaces you're in, the program you're a part of, and the people who show up every day to make it happen. When you lead with respect, people notice, and it makes a world of difference.

BE TEACHABLE

Nobody walks into Project Crew already knowing everything. Being teachable means staying open to feedback, even when it's hard to hear. It means trying new things, asking good questions, and not shutting down when something doesn't go perfectly. The people who grow the most aren't the ones who already have all the skills — they're the ones who stay curious, keep going when things get tough, and let themselves be coached. Show up ready to learn, and this summer will teach you a lot.
